Last year seventeen year old Craig Mayfield's considerable achievement in completing his NVQ Level 1 in Decorative Operations was recognised by winning a major award.
Craig, a trainee with Barnardos Palmersville Training, won the 2003 Newcastle Evening Chronicle Young Achiever Award along with £1000 in prize money. It was a fitting reward for Craig who has battled against the odds since he was a child.
The hard-working teenager, who has problems with fine and gross motor control making eye to hand co-ordination difficult, found school life tough going. Completing his NVQ has helped pick up new skills and develop his self confidence. Craig has started a work placement with Entek International shortly after receiving his award.
