News : Youth Village Forges Ahead (13/12/2004)

The brainchild of local businessmen Steve King and Jim Coltman takes a step nearer to fruition as plans are agreed to establish a Youth Village in North Shields.

Jim and Steve are Directors of the hugely successful Northumbria Youth Action - a programme that seeks to use training in motor mechanics to help "at risk" young people find a place in further education, training and development. The Youth Village concept is one they have cherished for some time and now with the support of North Tyneside Council it is set to move ahead as building work begins early in the new year.

The Youth Village provides a unique opportunity for work-based learning providers in North Tyneside to work together to upgrade accommodation and improve facilities. And of course ultimately offer more and better training for young people.
