NT Schools Palmersville Training has recently piloted a Year 10-11 work related programme in connection with Seaton Burn Community College, George Stephenson High, Longbenton Community College and work based Learning Providers

The year 10 students are given the opportunity of trying six different vocational areas, one in each half term attending one day per week, the choices of tasters in the first year are as follows:

  • Palmersville - Hairdressing, Beauty, Hospitality, Painting & Decorating, Horticulture, Warehousing & Retail.
  • North Tyneside Training Services - Joinery, Bricklaying, Light Engineering.
  • Northumbria Youth Action - Motor Vehicle Repairs

In the second year the students follow the vocational area they feel they wish to persue when leaving school, again attending one day per week. The programme also enables the students to collect evidence for Asdan Awards and work towards units and elements of their NVQ.

On the 17th May 2006 the students attended a presentation and each received a certificate of achievement.

The programme has proved to be very successful and will continue to develop and expand.
