Training Group to Benefit
Children's charity Barnardo's has been appointed Lloyds TSB Charity of the Year for 2007, and the organisations are hoping to raise over £1m to fund the training to help secure the future of thousands of disadvantaged young people across the country.

Palmersville Training in Benton is set to benefit from £1m to fund vocational and educational training schemes.

The project on Whitley Road will benefit from the funding, provides young people some of which have significant learning difficulties and behavioural and emotional problems with realistic work environments where they can be trained and can gain qualification in a range of professions.

The centre on North Tyne Industrial Estate operates as a Barnardo's shop, restaurant and hair & beauty salon and provides students with vital vocational skills and an understanding and experience of work offering a range of training options including NVQ levels one and two in hospitality, administration, hairdressing, beauty therapy, citizenship, horticulture, retail, warehousing and painting & decorating.

Barnardo's chief executive Martin Narey said "We work with more than 110,000 children and young people throughout the UK who suffer significant disadvantage."
