From Learner to Employee
Success for Palmersville learner Stephen Ellis as he gains employment with Barnardo's.

Stephen commenced training at Palmersville on 10 March 2003 on the Lifeskills Programme. Within this time he wanted to try a taster in Hospitality. After six months he decided this was the career for him and he transferred across on a full time basis. After completing his NVQ Level 1 and Certificate in Food Safety he progressed onto his NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship.

As part of his Apprenticeship he was required to work in an external placement. He was placed at Barnardo's Longbenton Early Years for two days per week, no sooner had he started, they were so impressed, they persuaded him to apply for the vacany of Food Service Assistant. He attended the interview on 21 December 2005 and at lunchtime the same day he received a phonecall to say he had been successful.

Stephen commenced his employment on 23 January 2006 and is now our colleague instead of our learner.

Congratulations and well done!
