North Tyneside E2E - Home - News

Jobs Ahoy
A group of young trainees on the Entry to Employment (E2E) programme in North Tyneside got a chance to experience life on the high seas recently.

The trainees from across North Tyneside were lucky enough to be asked to crew the tall ship Queen Galadriel as it sailed overnight from Portsmouth across the English Channel and into Cherbourg.

The fun didn't stop there. While in France, the E2E team went fishing, visited Cherbourg and organised a football match between themselves and the Queen Galadriel crew, which they won. The return voyage called in at Christchurch and Cowes before docking back in Portsmouth.

Organiser, Cath Rice, believes the young people picked up a great deal more than seamanship from the trip."This was a great opportunity for young people to get to know each other and the adults they work with. But of even greater importance was the fact that they learned to trust each other and work together to achieve a common goal. These are important life skills that will help them get a job and keep it."
