Barnardo’s goes pink!
When Shirley Jackson (Training supervisor, Beauty) first set Beauty Learners at Palmersville the challenge of arranging a fundraising day for Breast Cancer Care, she could not have imagined how successful the day would be.” I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our Beauty Learners” Shirley told us. With Shirley’s guidance, a team of 12 learners (11 girls and 1 boy) raised £121.60 for the Breast Cancer Care Charity.
A pink theme was decided upon for the day which was held on Friday 24 October and offered mini manicures and pedicures for a minimum donation of £1.00. All Palmersville Beauty learners were involved in planning the fundraiser. This included designing posters, arranging pink outfits for the whole team, decorating the salon (in pink of course!) sourcing pink nail varnishes and nail files. On the day, every member of the team had a list of clients and worked tremendously hard. The level of support from clients, staff at Palmersville, learners and their parents was tremendous with 32 appointments being made. Once clients were buffed and polished and sporting pink nails they were encouraged to visit our e@t Restaurant, where we tempted them with a special celebration cake and custard, both pink of course! “The support was fantastic” Shirley said, “even the lads, who came along in large numbers from our Painting and Decorating and Horticulture departments, were prepared to enter into the spirit of the day and wear pink polish!”
At the end of the day the main objective was to raise as much money as possible for Breast Cancer Care but at the same time our Beauty Learners really benefited from the experience. Everyone took a full and active part in the day and learned so much about team working. “It was great to see how much the team enjoyed the day” Shirley explained “and how the Learners grew in confidence. Everyone enjoyed themselves, it was lovely to hear so much laughter but at the same time my team remained so professional and focused. I was very proud of each and every one of them!”
It seems everyone at Palmersville Training has been left with a warm glow from the whole experience. You could say everyone at Palmersville is in the pink!
